Why choose this walk

Markets allow you to compare proposals and choose small gastronomic stops. The tour gives you a thread to explore them; how much testing and where you eat depends on you.

Make the tour at your own pace. The gastronomic stops are optional and the consumption is paid in each establishment.

Who this walk is for

For travelers who enjoy discovering a city through what they eat.

What you’ll discover

  1. 01 · Mercado de San Antón

A Chueca market that combines traditional stalls, gastronomic offer and restaurant on several plants.

  2. 02 · Telefónica Gran Vía building

The skyscraper of Ignacio de Cárdenas, completed in 1930, introduced in the Gran Vía the scale of the first tall North American buildings. Its cultural access is Espacio Fundación Telefónica.

  3. 03 · Mercado de San Ildefonso

A vertical gastronomic market on Fuencarral street designed to test proposals from different positions in a flexible pause.

  4. 04 · Puerta del Sol

The great civic node of Madrid brings together the Real Casa de Correos, the zero kilometer and some of the most recognizable symbols of the city.

  5. 05 · Plaza Mayor

The large porticada square of the Madrid de los Austrias retains a unitary composition of facades, supports and historical accesses.

  6. 06 · Mercado de San Miguel

A historic iron structure converted into a gastronomic market next to Plaza Mayor. It works better as a tasting stop than as a traditional purchase.

  7. 07 · Las Cuevas de Luis Candelas

Under the Arch of Cuchilleros, these historical caves allow you to sit down and enjoy Castilian cuisine or share tapas with fellow travelers. The atmosphere recovers the legend of Luis Candelas and preserves as a special sign a sangria elaborated with secret recipe centuries.

Before you leave

Wear comfortable shoes, water and battery. Check schedules, reservations and possible closures before you move. Entrances to monuments and consumptions are paid separately; walking along the route does not include those purchases.

Share and ask for little at first. Check the schedules of each market and remember that consumptions are paid apart from the pass.
