Why choose this walk

The walk puts the focus on the route between the stops: windows, streets and pauses. It is an alternative to get to know Madrid from its neighbourhoods and leave room for its own discoveries.

Make the tour at your own pace. The gastronomic stops are optional and the consumption is paid in each establishment.

Who this walk is for

For those who prefer streets, shopping and neighbourhood life to a day of monuments.

What you’ll discover

  1. 01 · Telefónica Gran Vía building

The skyscraper of Ignacio de Cárdenas, completed in 1930, introduced in the Gran Vía the scale of the first tall North American buildings. Its cultural access is Espacio Fundación Telefónica.

  2. 02 · Mercado de San Ildefonso

A vertical gastronomic market on Fuencarral street designed to test proposals from different positions in a flexible pause.

  3. 03 · Museo de Historia de Madrid

The former Hospice of San Fernando explains the evolution of Madrid from its conversion into a court to the modern city, with a Baroque cover by Pedro de Ribera.

  4. 04 · Plaza del Dos de Mayo

The neighbourhood center of Malasaña preserves the monument to Daoíz and Velarde and the memory of the 1808 uprising in a space of daily life.

  5. 05 · Centre for Contemporary Culture Condeduke

The former Corps Guard headquarters is today a large municipal cultural complex articulated around courtyards, halls and public equipment.

Before you leave

Wear comfortable shoes, water and battery. Check schedules, reservations and possible closures before you move. Entrances to monuments and consumptions are paid separately; walking along the route does not include those purchases.

Leave room to go away and go back to the tour. If you combine shopping and food, check the times of the premises that interest you before leaving.
